Multimedia
Multimedia is a word that describes different forms of media and content that come together to form a working combination. The term has become very used in modern day life, especially due to the existence of computers, these being the primary machines that allow the existence of multimedia.
Combinations of text, images, audio, video and animation build up to form multimedia. Its usages are even more varied than the media types, including fields such as journalism, education, medicine, engineering, industry, science, commerce or entertainment.
In marketing and advertising the usage of multimedia has increased along the years reaching its maximum potential in the World Wide Web. With the interactivity offered by computers for the normal user and the expansion of the WWW to millions of sites online, advertising has become a part of the majority of them. Because of this it manages to include media that intertwines to form a seamless method of reaching out to the public.
Taking a website as an example of combined multimedia, any one of the more recent web pages available in cyberspace contains many of the elements enumerated before. Every site has text that describes what it is all about and how to use it. Images are used all the time to capture the attention of readers with a picture that is related to the content. Taking one step forward we have animations, which are made by a series of images put together into one file, that give the illusion of movement. The website already looks interesting.
Depending on the theme of a particular website, one may include audio for songs or sound and videos that are always a joy to watch. And all the way is the interactivity, which makes it possible for a user that is sitting in front of a computer to click on an item on a webpage and make it do a specific action.
All of these are multimedia. And multimedia has made it possible for many fields to leap into the future along with technology.
